Serious Comics: Exploring Comics for Change

Friday 9 October 2020
(Friday day pass needed)
10.00am – 5.15pm
Kendal Museum, Kendal College Campus, Station Rd, LA9 6BT

This year Comics Up Close will move to an exciting new location – the historic and newly refurbished Kendal Museum, at the heart of Kendal College.

Once again, we will offer a day packed with new and exciting perspectives on comic art.

Bringing together leading international academics, creators and comic advocates from across the globe, the day will present new thinking in exciting and innovative ways.

A key strand of the 2020 programme will be political cartoons, graphic satire & reportage, under the title Serious Comics.

Other strands will include comics & architecture and censorship & self-censorship strategies of comics creators in the Communist-era Eastern Bloc.

The return of the Comics Up Close PechaKucha sessions will also offer fast-paced presentations about the latest academic thinking in comics.

Comics Up Close is for researchers & academics, illustrators, writers and teachers, plus those inspired to dig deeper into the latest developments in comic art.

The full programme for Comics Up Close 2020 will be announced in June.
