Ayy Kaplan

Kooky Creative, print gremlin, cut 'n' paste experimenter, digital trickster, chronic doodler and village witch.

Ayy Kaplan (aka Amber Kaplan) is a wacky arteest and Leeds Arts University graduate based in the Leeds/Bradford area.

Amber's work is a rough and tumble, experimental medley of media including print, paper-cut /collage, and some digital fiddling mixed with my on-going love of music, film, makeup, monsters, and all things downright weird.

She has always been inspired by the graphic and bold style of comic art, and I often incorporate some kind of narrative in my single images.

Her work is often rooted in fantasy and all things mystical, and she has an ongoing project based around monster girls.

Amber also has fan-art works and is working on a zine with fellow illustrator Abi Watson. They have been part of a group who collaborated with the comic book store Travelling Man to put on an exhibition of fan-art based illustrations in their Leeds store in conjunction with Thought Bubble Festival.

As well as comic art Amber is deeply interested in feminism, queer culture, and mental health.

At the Lakes International Comic Art Festival Amber will be bringing to the table a variety of prints – both traditional and digital, zines, and handmade badges and hairclips.
