Finnish Village

Saturday, October 14, 2017 - 10:00
How better to celebrate the centenary year of Finnish independence than in Kendal’s impromptu Finnish Village focussing on the work and legacy of internationally-famous artist and writer Tove Jansson?

Events throughout the day
Saturday, 14 October, 10:00am - 5:00pm
Sunday, 15 October, 10:00am – 4:00pm
Kendal College Arts & Media Campus, Wildman Street

What’s on in the Village?…

Including a new LICAF commission Archipelagogo, an archival exhibition on the life of Tove Jansson and an exhibition of the best of contemporary Finnish comics

A film programme

Including screenings of two Tove Jansson documentaries and a feature length Moomins animation

A comics marketplace

With Onni Mustonen from the Finnish Comics Society and artists Johanna Rojola and Petteri Tikkanen.

Oh and…

A proper Finnish Sauna (in a converted horsebox) with a pop-up café!

Guest artists will animate the sauna with short performances, whilst at other times you can relax (escape!) in the sauna’s warm and fragrant, wood-fired aromas.

Free access apart from the film programme (passholders entry is free, non-passholders for a donation) and the sauna has a nominal entry fee of £2 per person.

The Finnish Village is brought to LICAF 2017 in partnership with the Finnish Institute and the Finnish Comics Society, and is sponsored by Moomin.
