2000AD writer Robbie Morrison latest Podcast guest

Robbie Morrison, co-creator of 2000AD's "Nikolai Dante", is the guest of the latest Lakes International Comic Art Festival Podcast - available now.

Robbie discusses his work at 2000AD, starting with the Judge Dredd Megazine and the creation of Nikolai Dante and then onto his own projects including White Death with Charlie Adlard and Drowntown with Jim Murray. He also looks at the work he’s doing on the Traces of the Great War anthology with Charlie.

Scottish comic book writer Robbie Morrison grew up in the villages of Linwood and Houston, but as no one outside of Scotland has heard of them, he usually claims he’s from Glasgow.

In a 24-year career, he has scripted the adventures of iconic characters including Judge Dredd, Batman, Spider-Man and, most recently, Doctor Who.

One of this year's Festival guests, he's perhaps best known to date for the Eagle award-winning "Nikolai Dante" saga for 2000AD, now available as graphic novels.

He has created many other popular series and characters, including Blackheart, Drowntown, Shakara, Shimura and The Bendatti Vendetta, and has worked with some of the most respected artists in the business, including Dave Gibbons and fellow Scot Frank Quitely.

Robbie is also the writer of the acclaimed World War One graphic novel White Death, co-created with Walking Dead artist Charlie Adlard and recently featured in a French documentary film. "Without a Trace", a short follow-up to White Death, will appear in Traces of the Great War, a new anthology of illustrated stories for NOW 14-18 launching at the Lakes International Comic Art Festival 2018.

Hosts Ian Loxam and Nikki Bates also review Tumult by John Harris Dunning and Michael Kennedy, a new graphic novel and a terrific psychological thriller published by SelfMadeHero that will grip you page by page.

They also talk about the comedy writing course Ian took part in which was part funded by LICAF, run by Jane Postlethwaite which, we're assured, has made Ian funny… according to Ian, any way!

They also discuss the events being held on the evenings of this years Festival now the 2018 Programme is available, which you can download here from the Festival's official site.

Mike Williams reviews the zombie comic book Empire of the Dead by George A Romero and Pete Taylor looks at the life of Steve Dikto who passed away recently.

Finally the Podcast rounds off with the latest song by North West-based Sean Moore called "Kiss Me Twice"- which features Ian and Nikki are in the video. Buy the track here on Bandcamp.
