“Strangers in Paradise” creator Terry Moore announced as Special Guest for Lakes International Comic Art Festival 2024, a rare UK appearance

The Lakes International Comic Art Festival is delighted to announce Terry Moore, creator of Strangers in ParadiseRachel RisingMotor GirlEcho and Five Years, as a special guest of its weekend-long Festival in September, making a rare UK appearance.

Indy powerhouse Terry Moore began his career in comics with the critically-acclaimed epic series Strangers in Paradise, the compelling love story between three unlikely friends who find themselves bound together by their pasts. The long-running series garnered many awards, including the coveted Eisner Award for Best Serialised Story and the National Cartoonists Society Comic Book Division Reuben Award.

Strangers in Paradise has been translated into twenty-one languages and is as popular today as when it was first published in 1993. Terry marked twenty-five years of Strangers in Paradise with new stories in a ten-issue limited series, Strangers in Paradise XXV.

Moore has created many award-winning series, including Motor Girl, the story of a wounded warrior and her imaginary best friend, Rachel Rising, a horror comic with a ten-year-old serial killer named Zoe, ECHO, a science fiction thriller, and Five Years, the series that brings together characters from all of his series in one heart-stopping story. Terry has also published a How To Draw book, as well as a yearly Sketchbook.

His latest series, Parker Girls, brings some of the most intriguing SIP characters back together to fight crime in their unique style. On tap for 2024 is an updated release of Terry’s early comic strips and concept art, The Really Complete Paradise Too. Terry is also working on a new graphic novel to be offered in the autumn 2024.

The recipient of numerous industry awards worldwide, Moore continues to create strong female characters in extraordinary stories that touch the hearts of readers around the world.

In addition to publishing work under his own label, Abstract Studio, Moore has worked for Marvel, DC, Dark Horse, BOOM! Studios, and other major publishers throughout his thirty year career.

"We're absolutely delighted to host Terry Moore as a special guest at this year's Lakes International Comic Art Festival," says Festival Director Julie Tait. “We had him lined up as part of our planned in person events back in 2020, but world events prevented it.

"He has a huge following for his work in the UK and Europe, and we're delighted he's been able to add our event to his busy 2024 schedule."

"It is an honour to be a guest of the Lakes International Comic Art Festival which raises awareness of the power of comics through its celebration of artists and writers from around the world," says Terry. "I look forward to being a part of this amazing weekend and appreciate the Festival for giving me this opportunity."

Again offering a diverse range of British, European and international guests supported by funding from the Arts Council and other partners, local, national and international, this year's event will include creators from across the globe. Events will include talks, panels, live draws, film screenings, comic creator workshops, free children’s events, and the annual Windows Trail.
