The latest Lakes International Comic Art Festival Podcast sees Ian Loxam and Nikki Bates in conversation with former The Mighty One himself, ex-2000AD editor Steve MacManus.
Steve worked directly within the British comics industry between 1973 to 2011, and is still writing today, strips featuring in The77 retro anthology – and his own novels, such as the recently-released The Sheerglam Conspiracy.
He’s perhaps best known as editor of 2000AD between 1979 and 1986, an era is classed by many as a golden era for the comic. Steve explains why he felt this is – plus he discusses all aspects of his career.
Also in this episode, Tom Stewart reviews Wild Lives by Claire Hubbard, while Mike Williams and Pete Taylor bring us Part One of their “Comic Genre World Cup”, in what they’re calling a Lockdown Mutterdown. Plus, Ian and Nikki discuss the Comichaus Comic Book Club, Atomic Hercules by Tony Esmond and Adam Falp, and Mikel by Mark Bellido and Judith Vanistendael.
