Presented as part of Shubbak Festival, there’s a special online event coming up this Thursday, 29th May 2025, exploring Enter the Mulberry Tree and Fly Free, a striking exhibition which showcases the works of twelve Palestinian comic artists.
Curated by George Khoury and originally presented by the Lakes International Comic Arts Festival, the Enter the Mulberry Tree and Fly Free exhibition itself is on view at Grand Junction, Rowington Close London, from Tuesday 27th May until Monday 9th June 2025, from 10.00am – 4.00pm.
The exhibition features the work of, in alphabetical order by given name, Abdelrazaq Leila, Al-Nakhala Amal, Al-Shamali Shahd, Amer Shomali, Ata Iasmin Omar (also known as Delta), Dabaie Marguerite, Harb Samir, Hifaoui Nour, Jabareen Michael, Jarada Khaled, Sabaaneh Mohammad, and Yamani Fuad.
The online panel with curator George Khoury, artists Mohammad Sabaaneh and Amal Al-Nakhala, chaired by LICAF director Julie Tait, will take you behind the scenes of the exhibition’s creation and curation. From the political to the poetic, discover how comics can be a lens for resistance, storytelling, and cultural identity.
The discussion will delve into selected works from the exhibition and open wider conversations about the role of comics in today’s geopolitical climate.
This online panel discussion will be recorded. The event is free, but you need to register for tickets here.
