Abdel de Bruxelles
Abdel de Bruxelles has been living in Brussels since 1994. He has published works with several major publishing houses, including, most recently, Tanger sous la pluie (“Tanger In the Rain”), published by Dargaud, and L'Abbé Pierre: Une vie pour les autres (“Abbé Pierre: A Life for Others”), published by Casterman.
After several years of creating various illustrations and commissioned drawings for the press, he created the character of Avril at Éditions Carabas, with Antoine Dodé, a friend he met during his studies. His work has since appeared in various magazines such as Revue dessinée, Topo, Fluide Glacial, and Éduquer, as well as in various collective and personal projects with independent Belgian or French publishers.
He began his first collaboration with author and editor Fabien Grolleau in 2014, bringing the character DUM to life in the eponymous series, published by Vide Cocagne. In 2017, he drew Le Conflit israélo-palestinien. Deux peuples condamnés: Deux peuples condamnés à cohabiter (“The Israeli-Palestinian conflict, two peoples condemned to coexist”) alongside Vladimir Grigorieff, a graphic novel in the Petite Bédéthèque des Savoirs series published by Le Lombard. In 2019 he collaborated with Théa Rojzman on Dominos, for Fluide Glacial.
Actively involved in Brussels’ cultural life, he helps organise comic-related events, both collectively and individually, such as the Cultures Maison festival and the Re-création Festival. At the same time, he is part of various musical groups as a drummer and percussionist – which is fitting, since comics, they say, are all about rhythm.
