The Lakes International Comic Art Festival is delighted to announce that it will bring a number of Scottish comic creators to its annual Festival in September in Bowness-on-Windermere, thanks to the support of The National Lottery through Creative Scotland.

A New Kind of Comics Marketplace at The Lakes International Comic Art Festival 2024 - and it’s free! 

At the annual Lakes International Comic Art Festival, the main aim of its Comics Marketplace has always been to create an environment which encourages networking and opportunities to discover more about the global comics scene alongside selling to our audiences and guests. Ultimately, the Festival has always wanted to find ways to get British comics seen more widely, and to provide a platform for the developments of creators’ careers. 

Make Mine Manga - Manga Character Design Competition

Love creating your own characters? Interested in drawing and illustrating? Are you a fan of Manga? If so, pick up a competition sheet from your local library in Cumbria – and create your own Manga character!

Westmorland and Furness Council are running a Manga Character Design Competition in connection to with the Lakes International Comic Art Festival-organised "Make Mine Manga Exhibition" at Barrow Library, which is on display there until 18th May 2024

British Comics Now delegation heads to Toronto Comic Art Festival

The Lakes International Comic Art Festival is delighted to release a new video promoting the British Comics Now! project, championing the voices of UK comic creators and publishers, as their delegation heads to Toronto Comic Art Festival this weekend (11th – 12th May 2024).

 

New "Comic Potential" Resources

We've added two new "Comic Potential" Educational Resources to our YouTube channel, presented by Hester Harrington. 

These videos form part of a series funded by the Paul Hamlyn Foundation, which exemplifies the use of comics to enhance children's learning across a range of subject / curriculum areas.

Make Mine Manga exhibition heads to Greece

The Make Mine Manga exhibition that has recently toured libraries across the North West, and opens at Barrow-in-Furness Central Library next week, is heading to Athens, to be part of the attractions at this year’s Comicdom CON Athens 2024 next month (17th – 19th May 2024).

Oxford Comics Network, Lakes International Comic Art Festival partner for free webinars

We're delighted to be partnering with the Oxford Comics Network for a new season of free Tuesday online lectures curated by Peter Kessler exploring various aspects of The Ninth Art. All the events are free, hosted online, and include both a lecture and opportunities for questions and discussion.
