2020 Year of the Comic

Throughout 2020, events, exhibitions and meetings are taking place in France and abroad celebrating the French-speaking “9th art”.

Dr Pavel Kořínek is a Prague-based comics theorist, historian and journalist, working at the Institute of Czech Literature and a founding member of the Centre for the Study of Comics ICL / UP.

A History of American War Comics

He suggests these works are as innovative and groundbreaking as 20th century film and challenge our perception of time, space and narration in unique ways.

Benoît Peeters is the creator, with artist Francois Schuiten, of the celebrated series of graphic novels, The Obscure Cities. He is an authority on the work of Hergé and Professor of Graphic Fiction and Comic Art at Lancaster University.
