Drake, Monster Boy by Abigail Coombes

Drake is a loud, obnoxious, self-centred monster demon in his mid 20s. No one knows where he came from or what he is. People just call him Monster Boy.

He has few friends due to his attitude and unpleasant personality and the few friends he does have keep their distance and make sure not to get on his bad side because of his short temper.

Despite his nature the one thing he enjoys the most is saving people, but everyone has come to terms with the fact that it is not because he cares about the people it is just because of the attention he gets afterwards.

Although some like to believe there is a shimmer of kindness in him somewhere, but that shimmer of kindness only goes to the people he truly cares about and would die for.

And as for the chains on his ankles, arms and neck. It’s just a fashion thing.

The Lakes International Comic Art Festival competition for 2019 is a tribute to Mike Mignola’s Hellboy. Students are challenged to create their own new character who despite emerging from the hellish heat and fury of the underworld is, like Hellboy, a cool force for good.

Hell of a Comic Art Challenge is supported by the University of Cumbria
