The Sophie Castille Awards for Comics in Translation – English Shortlist Announced

The Lakes International Comic Art Festival, in partnership with Comica and VIP Brands, is delighted to announce the short list for the Sophie Castille Awards for Comics in Translation – English, for 2024.

The Sophie Castille Awards for Comics in Translation are for the best translation of graphic novels into a variety of languages. Publishers from around the world again submitted for consideration a huge variety of comic stories translated into English, and deciding the final shortlist was no easy task.

Enter the Mulberry Tree and Fly Free: Palestinian Comics Revealed in new exhibition

We are delighted to announce “Enter the Mulberry Tree and Fly Free”, the first exhibition of comic art from Palestine of its kind to take place outside of the Middle East and North Africa region, which will be part of this year’s weekend-long event in Bowness-on-Windermere next month (26th – 30th September 2024).  

Political Cartoonist Mohammad Sabaaneh wins the EWK Award of 2024

Sweden's EWK Award of 2024 has been awarded to to the Palestinian political cartoonist Mohammad Sabaaneh, who will be a guest of the Lakes International Comic Art Festival in September.

The annual EWK Award of SEK 10,000 was established in the year of 2000 and is granted to artists who are working in the spirit of EWK. The award is currently distributed by The EWK Society, in cooperation with Fullersta Gård and the Museum of Work. Former recipients are, among others, Liv Strömquist, Jonathan “Zapiro” Shapiro, and Robert Nyberg.

Little LICAF at the Festival 2024 - Sunday Workshops

Each year, more than 300 young people, aged 12 and under, and their families, participate in free comics workshops at Windermere Jetty Museum, led by some of our guests – as well as other activities including badge-making, face-painting, cosplaying and more.

Led by the brilliant Marc Jackson and family of Room for Comics and MaccPow fame, this year includes a celebratory Doctor Who comics exhibition… and look out for some extra-terrestrial visitors!
