Working with Abraham Moss Community School, Manchester, the Lakes International Comic Art Festival has begun an important research project into Comics Literacy, in partnership with Comic Art Europe, with support from The Phoenix comic and Manchester City of Literature.

The official site for the 10 Years to Save the World comic art anthology project has just launched, as part of the Earth Day 2021 celebrations, featuring art by a great range of comic creators, including British artists Sayra Begum, Darren Cullen, Jack Teagle. Clarice Tudor and Zoom Rockman.

Comic creator Hannah Berry returns to the Lakes International Comic Art Festival Podcast this week, to talk about her period as the UK Comics Laureate, which has just come to an end.

Hannah Berry, award-winning author and creator of the critically-acclaimed graphic novels Adamtine and Livestock, was UK Comics Laureate 2019 – 2021, picking up the baton from Charlie Adlard. With her time as Laureate ending recently, handing over to artist and independent comics advocate Stephen L. Holland, we caught up with her to talk about her time in the voluntary, unpaid role established by the Lakes International Comic Art Festival, supported by Lancaster University.

Top American comic creator Greg Rucka, whose credits include Lazarus, Black Magick for Image, Stumptown from Oni Press, writer of the 2020 screenplay for The Old Guard, is among first of several announced guest for the Lakes International Comic Art Festival, returning to Kendal 15th-17th October 2021.

The Lakes International Comic Art Festival is pleased to announce the release of its Traces of The Great War Comic Workshop Activities Resources. Created as part of the organisation’s ongoing commitment to the 14-18 NOW arts project through its Legacy programme, the free resources also highlight how useful comics can be as a teaching aid, with a reach that combines both the visual and the written word.

Communicating Climate Change – what matters, what works? That’s the driving question behind a new commission from the British Council, involving comic creators in the Philippines and the United Kingdom aimed at 18–24-year-olds, that will demonstrate how the comics medium can stimulate climate change action through the creation of a comic digital anthology.

Five talented comics artists have been announced as the winners of the first Comic Art Europe “Open Call”, launched last year, selected among 200 applicants.
