New comics exhibition opens in Lancaster

An award- winning comics project helping young people to improve their literacy is being celebrated with an exhibition in Lancaster - and will then go on tour around Lancashire.

The Comic Literacy Project is part of The Dukes Cultural Partnership with our Festival partner, Lancaster University, which provides cultural outreach activities to young people, especially those facing barriers to education.

The Partnership has won the North West Cultural Education Award in 2017 and 2018.

After a busy weekend at the Comic Art Festival, the Lakes International Comic Art Festival Podcast team got loads of content - including a recording of "Best Comic Book Movie… Ever" panel, hosted by Peter Kessler.

"We had planned to do a full episode discussing the show but time has got in the way," says co-host Ian Loxam, "so enjoy this in the mean time and we will be back on the 1st November to talk all about how the festival went.

Lakes Festival Focus 2018: Zoom Rockman

Every year, in the countdown to the Lakes International Comic Art Festival, we bring you a series of interviews with guests at the event. We round off this year's series with a quick chat to the force of nature that is comics creator Zoom Rockman, a British artist and satirist whose comic strip, "Skanky Pigeon" first appeared in The Beano when he was 12 years old. He's also on of the Festival's Patrons.

Age 16, he became the youngest cartoonist in Private Eye magazine history, and has since become a regular contributor.

Every year, in the countdown to the Lakes International Comic Art Festival, we bring you a series of interviews with guests at the event. This “Festival Focus” for 2018 is Toy_Box, one of few Czech female comics authors.

Her creations have been awarded the Muriel award, the only prize that is given to comics books in the Czech Republic, for the best comics book and the best comics drawing in 2015.
