Comic Laureates Times Three!

London's Cartoon Museum recently played host to a unique gathering of current Comics Laureate Hannah Berry and past holders Dave Gibbons and Charlie Adlard.  All three were able to look back on how the post has evolved since it was launched by the Lakes International Comic Art Festival in partnership with Lancaster University, and their very different experiences of being the laureate.

Life as Comics Laureate: Hannah Berry (2019 - 2021)

The Comics Laureate is an ambassadorial and educational role for the comic genre and aims to raise awareness of the impact comics can have in terms of increasing literacy and creativity. The Comics Laureate appointment is made biennially to a distinguished comics creator, writer or artist in recognition of their outstanding achievement in the genre.

Life as Comics Laureate: Charlie Adlard (2017 - 2019)

Comics Laureates Time Three at Cartoon Museum!

London’s Cartoon Museum hosts a Comics Laureate Round Table this Wednesday (13th November 2019), with Dave GibbonsCharlie Adlard and Hannah Berry.

This is a rare opportunity to see all three Comic Laureates on stage at the same time, including the current holder of the position, Hannah Berry.

What does a Laureate do? Is it an honour to be asked? What is it like to wear a cape? The three comic creators will be talking about all this, and more for a talk hosted by Jason Atomic.

Comics Laureate Hannah Berry will be in Lancaster next week, as a guest of Lancaster University’s Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences talk series – a free event taking place at the Cavendish Colloquium on campus, that should prove an evening to remember on Monday 11th November.

Lakes Festival Podcast 63: Comics Writer Garth Ennis

The latest Lakes International Comic Art Festival Podcast sees the team catch up with writer Garth Ennis, delivering a recording of an on-stage interview recorded at the 2019 Festival.

Garth Ennis’s career has spanned 30 years and he has created some amazing comics such as The Boys and Preacher - but where did his career begin? Listen to Garth chat to Tim Pilcher about his career in comics.

Danish artist Jake Thybo joins Lakes Festival line-up

Danish comic artist Jacob Thybo - creator of Arminius, a graphic novel about a German revolt against the Romans, and a new story, Hemmingway's Cats, released this month, is joining the Lakes International Comic Art Festival line-up this weekend in Kendal, replacing Rune Ryberg, who has unfortunately had to drop out due to illness, and fellow Danish creator Rikke Hollænder.
