Sergio Aragonés, the world’s fastest cartoonist, will be making a rare appearance as part of the Lakes International Comic Art Festival (13th – 15th October in Kendal, Cumbria).

One of the most famous and influential living cartoonists, Sergio, perhaps best known for his work on MAD Magazine, is world renowned for his fast and witty cartooning style. He has won every major award in the field, including the National Cartoonists Society’s Reuben Award, and the Will Eisner Hall of Fame Award.

Stephen L. Holland, co-owner of the superb Nottingham-based comic shop Page 45 and Lakes International Comic Art Festival patron talks about the store, the comics industry and the festival in the latest podcast from the fast upcoming event's team. Stephen has been a huge supporter of the Festival and its aims, and regularly decamps tons of great graphic novels to Kendal for the weekend, and has a great line up of signings planned in the free Comics Clock Tower.

Lancaster University has announced “The Power of Graphic Novels/ Comics” – a free networking event in October for regional and UK schools (Heads/ Principals, Headmasters, Headteachers, Teachers, Trustees), libraries (librarians, event and education staff), and graphic novel and comic artists/authors/illustrators.

A man of many media, Gareth, one of this year's Festival guests, is known for his unusual approach to materials, using embroidery, textiles, lino-cut print, stencilling and even pressed flowers in his work.

The weekend festival (running Friday 13th - Sunday 15th October 2017), celebrating the amazing world of comics, takes over the scenic town of Kendal, on the edge of the Lake District.

Honouring the acclaimed comics creator Leo Baxendale, the Lakes International Comic Art Festival is has announced a specially-made print – “Baby Basil Does His Bit” – is now on permanent display in Kendal’s Brewery Arts Centre.

The countdown has begun to this year’s Lakes International Comic Art Festival in October (13th – 15th). We’re delighted to continue our “Kendal Calling” interviews with the amazing Finnish comic artist Petteri Tikkanen, who blew Festival guests away with his art last year, and is back this year with fellow creator Johanna Rojola, as part of a bonkers "Finnish Village" element of the weekend-long event.

The Caravan of Comics creators will be visiting the UK thanks to support from the Australia Council for the Arts and the line-up includes both new and familiar faces from the antipodes.

We're delighted to announce England's Arts Council has just announced its National Portfolio Organisations for the next four years – and the Lakes International Comic Art Festival is one of them, securing long-term funding for its ambitious comic art development and promotion plans, which include the annual Festival in October in Kendal.
