What a Fantastic Festival! LICAF 2018 highlights

A world of incredible comic art (and some phenomenal rain!) arrived in Kendal for the Lakes International Comic Art Festival, 12–14th October, 2018.

This year the festival was even bigger and better than ever, with over 70 of the best comic artists, writers and creators heading to the Lake District for a packed comic art weekend spectacular.

Unity Wall art project launches at Festival

The team behind the The Unity Wall project, which intends to showcase the creative talent of artists from around the globe, will be on the hunt for artists interested in contributing to a unique comics project at this weekend's Lakes International Comic Art Festival.

The Unity Wall is a project which intends to showcase the creative talent of artists from around the globe. Budding and established artists and community groups are being encouraged to get involved with this exciting project.

Lakes Festival Focus 2018: Zoom Rockman

Every year, in the countdown to the Lakes International Comic Art Festival, we bring you a series of interviews with guests at the event. We round off this year's series with a quick chat to the force of nature that is comics creator Zoom Rockman, a British artist and satirist whose comic strip, "Skanky Pigeon" first appeared in The Beano when he was 12 years old. He's also on of the Festival's Patrons.

Age 16, he became the youngest cartoonist in Private Eye magazine history, and has since become a regular contributor.

Lakes Festival Focus 2018: Toy_Box

Every year, in the countdown to the Lakes International Comic Art Festival, we bring you a series of interviews with guests at the event. This “Festival Focus” for 2018 is Toy_Box, one of few Czech female comics authors.

Her creations have been awarded the Muriel award, the only prize that is given to comics books in the Czech Republic, for the best comics book and the best comics drawing in 2015.

Lakes Festival Focus 2018: JC Deveney

Every year, in the countdown to the Lakes International Comic Art Festival, we bring you a series of interviews with guests at the event. This “Festival Focus” for 2018 is French comic creator JC Deveney.

Born in 1977, in Hyères, JC Deveney studied History in Aix-en-Provence, and Literature in Montreal, before settling in Lyon in 2001. He began to work there full-time at scriptwriting while leaving in search of the many other authors hidden in the city.

New Comics Laureate Announced

Award-winning author Hannah Berry, creator of the critically-acclaimed graphic novels Adamtine and Livestock, whose credits include work for New Statesman, was announced as the new Comics Laureate at the Lakes International Comic Art Festival earlier this evening, Saturday 13th October 2018.

Hunt Emerson wins this year's Sergio Award

The Lakes International Comic Art Festival has announced Hunt Emerson as the winner of the Sergio Aragonés International Award for Excellence in Comic Art for 2018.

Hunt, who is highly regarded internationally for his work as a graphic novelist, and as a cartoonist for a variety of magazines including Fortean Times and Beano, was announced as winner at the opening ceremony of the Lakes International Comic Art Festival in Kendal, Cumbria.
