Artist Tom of Finland exhibition announced at 2019 Festival

The Lakes International Comic Art Festival 2019 is to celebrate the forthcoming 100th anniversary of the birth of Tom of Finland (born Touko Laaksonen), the world’s best loved queer artist, comics creator and gay icon with a special exhibition in Kendal in October.

From the 1940s on, Tom pushed the boundaries of gay erotic art, creating a style of comics that inspired a generation of gay men to celebrate their sexuality.

2019 Festival Poster artist Junko Mizuno interviewed

Artist Junko Mizuno created the standout poster image for the 2019 Lakes International Comic Art Festival and the event’s official podcast has a chat with her as part of their latest episode. Junko was originally born in Tokyo and her self taught style is based mainly on 1970’s and 80’s Japanese pop culture.

The Walking Dead artist Charlie Adlard won the Sergio Aragones International Award For Excellence In Comic Art at this year’s Reubens Awards, held over the weekend at the inaugural NCSFest in Huntington Beach, California.

Charlie will collect his Award at the Lakes International Comic Art Festival in Kendal, Cumbria, in October.
