First guests, Festival artwork by Mohamed Salah revealed for Lakes International Comic Art 2023

We're delighted to reveal our first guests for our annual gathering this autumn (Friday 29th September – Sunday 1st October) – and this year’s haunting Festival art by Egyptian comic creator, Mohamed Salah.

The first announced guests for this year’s Festival, taking place in Bowness-on-Windermere from Friday 29th September – Sunday 1st October will be Dave McKean, award-winning Czech artist Lucie Lomová, and “Awkward Yeti” creator Nick Sulek, and, of course, Mohamed Salah.

Sophie Castille Awards for Comics in Translation - English - 2025

VIP Brands Ltd. is delighted to announce the 2025 Sophie Castille Award – English. This year’s award will again be presented in partnership with Comica and the Lakes International Comic Art Festival at their annual event in Bowness-on-Windermere this autumn, taking place Friday 26th September – Sunday 28th September 2025.

The Sophie Castille Awards for Comics in Translation are for the best translation of graphic novels into a variety of languages around the world.

A Big Thank You to our departing Comic Art Festival Podcast Team

The entire Lakes International Comic Art Festival organising team would like to issue a big thank you to Ian Loxam, Nikki Bates, Pete Taylor and Mike Williams, the Comic Art Festival Podcast Team, who have announced the end of its run after racking up an incredibly impressive 100 episodes.

Ian Loxam announced the end of the Podcast last week, five years since it was launched.

Remembering the inspirational Aileen McEvoy

We at The Lakes International Comic Art Festival are all so so sad to have said goodbye to the inspirational Aileen McEvoy, who passed away last Thursday, who played an integral part in our organisation for several years.

Aileen had a love of life, of artists, of people and our audiences and of comics too and she will be sorely missed. She championed young artists and new talent, and had a keen eye and wonderful intelligence which she brought to bear on her work with us.

Posy Simmonds to receive International Award for Excellence in Comic Art at first COMICA event in March

We're delighted to announce that Posy Simmonds MBE will be presented with The International Award for Excellence in Comic Art for 2022 at the first COMICA event in March, at the Century Club, London.

Posy was unfortunately unable to attend our Festival last year in Bowness to receive her Award due to unexpected family circumstances.

Lakes International Comic Art Festival 2023 - Call for Exhibitors

We are delighted to invite applications for exhibitors to feature in our Lakeside Comics Marketplace at the 11th Lakes International Comic Art Festival, taking place 29th September to 1st October 2023 in Bowness-on-Windermere, Cumbria.

This will be our second year in beautiful Bowness, and we’ll be creating a bespoke exhibitor area situated in the heart of our LICAF "village" on the Glebe recreation area by the shores of Windermere.
